Hello and Welcome
I am Chris. I am a a self-taught musician and the main blogger, editor and designer behind KidsPlayMusic. I started KidsPlayMusic back in 2015 as a place for me to share my knowledge and tips about musical instruments for kids.
In the early years the blog was called KidsGuitarWorld.com since I had a strong focus on guitar and ukulele playing. Over time, my articles have mainly focused on the teaching of musical instruments and many good methods and ideas can be applied to any instrument. That’s why it was a necessary step in 2024 to expand the topic of the site and cover all instruments that are relevant for children.

My Musical Background
I’ve been playing guitar and ukulele for almost 10 years. As the father of two young children, I am familiar with the subject of early musical education and know when which instruments are relevant and how to introduce them. Although I can master complicated chords on the guitar and read music without any problems, I wouldn’t describe myself as a professional musician. I am simply someone who enjoys making music and wants to share this passion. In the past, I worked for a period of time at a school for children with special needs. Art and music lessons were the main focus of my work and I was able to help shape and support the lessons. Thanks to this work, I realized how enriching music is in our lives and what a joy it is to make music. Making music is so much more than just playing the perfect sounding riff on a guitar or a stunning solo on a piano. It’s not about impressing other people but rather about expressing ourselves with other people. Music breaks communication barriers and connects people!
My Philosophy
It is really important that making music is fun for kids! Every child loves singing and clapping. But when it comes to musical instruments there are many children who lose quickly the motivation or it gets boring. The main reason for this is that unfortunately many parents and teachers make learning musical instruments too boring. Singing and clapping along is easy and that’s why most kids love it. We have to design our teaching the same way. Let our children discover the musical instrument first in the way they want to. Once interest in a musical instrument has been inspired, lessons can begin. And here is a big pain point. I have noticed that many great books and materials are not designed for young children. They are too dry! For adults these materials work perfect but not for kids. Kids need entertainment, first quick learn success. That’s why, theory must be limited to the basics for you children. It is much more important to have varied lessons with activities and visualizations. And that’s the reason why I have designed many teaching materials in order to make learning and teaching for kids easier! I have still a lot of ideas for new materials and I want this site to be one of the main addresses when it comes to teaching music to kids! If you have any feedback or ideas, please let me know! Just write me an e-mail.
I try to offer as many basic materials as possible for free so that even parents and teachers who cannot afford books or sheet music will get the required resources! However, running this project has a certain price. I have to pay hosting and freelancers who help me with the project, in terms of web- and graphic design. That’s why I have to charge for the ebooks and materials, which required more design and conceptual work.
